i know that buying produce out of season is totally taboo. but i just couldn't resist. i was at the market and saw this beautiful box of heirloom tomatoes from mexico (it's not that far, i live in california now... or at least that's the rationale i gave myself). i had to have them. right next to them was a bursting pack of basil. my carbon footprint might be way off for the day, but my eyes and tastebuds were in pure caprese heaven. i promise to try and resist the lure of the tomato for the next few months. sorry world, but it was delish.
